This absolutely awesome speaker set consists of a pair of the iconic KRK Rokit 5 Classic near field speakers, a SUB-1 preamp, a 1/4 kW subwoofer amp, a subwoofer and all associated cables. It is intended for use in a studio setting near a mixing console or a gaming rig with a multi-display setup. The Rokits are near mint and have seen only little use. The SUB-1 preamp is a development sample of a commercial device which unfortunately never made it to production. Its functions are VOLUME, SUB TRIM which is used to tune the sub level from the preamp, a SP/HP switch to select speakers or headphones, a FLAT/SUB switch which switches in a filter to relieve the Rokits of producing the lowest audio frequencies and using the subwoofer for that task. The reasoning is that in order to produce a high SPL the Rokits run out of oomph and need additional power from the subwoofer as the lowest frequencies carry the most energy. A lockable Neutrik headphone jack, a headroom (CLIP) indicator, a power indicator and the 3.5 mm stereo input socket complete the front panel. The rear panel has the three XLR sockets for the outputs and the Powercon receptacle for the power cord.
The preamp is fully balanced and uses XLR cables to connect the Rokits and the subwoofer amp.
The subwoofer amp is based on a heavily modded BTL configured TPA3255 board. The opamps have been removed and replaced with a balanced input. A clipping indicator has been provided as well. It is powered by a Joepie China switchmode power supply (48 V/8.3 A).
The subwoofer itself is a standard sub box with a powerful Pioneer 12" speaker, capable of reproducing the full power output of the sub amp.
