Noname Flashlight Chinese Quality

Because the recently acquired No-name Chinese flashlight had such terrible focus I decided to tweak that sucker a bit to get better results. The crappy focus was caused by the reflector sitting too deep inside the housing, causing the Lambertian Luxeon Star not illuminating it properly from its focal point. So the LED needed to be placed deeper. This was accomplished by placing two pieces of epoxy PCB material with a thickness of 0.5 mm at the edge of the Luxeon Star. The retaining rings needed some adjustment after that.

It was odd that the brightness is roughly equal to my 2.4 W halogen bike light. When measuring the current at 3 volts this was found to be only 0.26 A, giving a power of less than a watt, certainly not 3 W! I did not pursue this further as the brightness is sufficient, but it sure is odd. Must have something to do with the converter.

Note that the LED was decidedly off center (closeup_old), and that the retaining ring was fucked up. Also note that I soldered the pieces of PCB right onto the two unused terminals of the Star. As it provides isolation this is OK.
